Ranchor Prime writes about spirituality, publishes his own and other people's books, and teaches the Bhagavad Gita. As an art student at Chelsea in 1970 he discovered the Bhagavad Gita and met followers of Krishna. He joined the Radha Krishna Temple and became a disciple of A C Bhaktivedanta Swami. In 1971 he was given the name Ranchor Das. During the 1970s he pioneered a Hare Krishna centre in Manchester, painted pictures, and built and managed a new Radha Krishna temple in the West End of London. In 1987 he began working as an adviser to WWF, the World Wide Fund for Nature, on religion and conservation.

Ranchor's first book, Hinduism and Ecology, written in 1990, arose from my work with WWF in Britain and India. This led him to find Friends of Vrindavan, an environmental charity for conserving the sacred forests of Krishna in India and strengthening the link between Hinduism and ecology. In 1996 he helped found ARC, the Alliance of Religions and Conservation, which works with religions worldwide to support environmental education and action.

Ranchor started Fitzrovia Press in October 2008 to publish his own books and new writing from other authors. The press is dedicated to producing spiritual books for a broad readership.

Bhagavad Gita
"Talks Between the Soul and God"
Ranchor Prime
(Paperback Book)

Beautiful and accessible translation of this classic yogic literature.

Description from the publisher:
The Bhagavad Gita is an encounter without parallel in world literature. At its heart is a conversation between the soul and God. This new edition is the first to be produced from a home-grown British Hindu, aimed at a contemporary Western audience. It includes the specially commissioned drawings of the English artist Charles Newington.

Ranchor Prime’s version adopts a non-sectarian approach, making the Gita relevant to those of all religions or none, and emphasising the link between religion and self-development. It is distinguished by its easy accessibility. His section-by-section commentary opens the text to the spiritual seeker. He never loses sight of the audience for his book, and that he wants his readers to understand the Gita in a personal way.

‘Prime began this translation as a way of sharing the Gita with his own children, and his commentary exudes a fatherly and caring spirit.’ Publishers Weekly

‘This translation brings alive this vital ancient text for Western audiences. It may be the best English edition of the Gita for enticing customers to take a dip into a dazzling river of divine knowledge.’ New Age Retailer
